Our 2017-2018 Bridge
Design Summary
-
Overtruss was used to maximize overall depth. This increases the overall efficiency and moment of inertia
-
Warren truss was selected to maximize load/weight ratio
-
Cross braces have been used to increase lateral stiffness and to prevent the trusses from buckling
-
Members are fabricated from square HSS to increase efficiency in fabrication. In addition, they are not susceptible to lateral-torsional buckling
Acceleration Bridge Construction
-
Most of the bolts are pre-welded to the structure for faster assembly
-
The bridge components were fabricated using jigs to avoid problems with tolerances
-
Similar types of connections are used throughout the entire structure for faster construction
Current Construction Sequence
-
Four legs are placed and loading rails are built from midspan to the ends, connecting the bottom cross braces simultaneously
-
Loading rails are connected over the river and the bridge is supported at midspan using a pier
-
The over trusses are built off of the loading rails and cross braces simultaneously towards midspan, while connecting the upper cross braces
